• 3 Weight Loss Tips for Beginners

    Making the decision to create a healthier life is easy.  Taking the first step, and the one million afterward, now that’s the hard part!  So many people think it’s a matter of willpower, or being blessed with super awesome genetics, but the fact is, it’s neither!  Succeeding in your health or weight loss journey boils down to one thing, your absolute refusal to give up!  So how do you do that?  How do you set yourself up for success?  Here are three tips that come from my personal experience in losing 85 pounds:

    1) Surround yourself with supportive friends!

    When I started my journey, I had the support of an amazing husband!  Having someone by your side, whether it is a spouse, a best friend, a colleague or even an online friend is so important to your success!  You are going to have bad days, days when you question everything that you’re doing because all you want to do is sit on the couch and eat a Big Mac and fries!  How do I know that?  Because I’ve been there!  Your support person will be the one who reminds you how far you’ve come, that you’re worth it and that a greasy cheeseburger really won’t make you feel any better!  (And they can also whisper and let you know it’s loaded with nasty trans fat!)

    2) Educate yourself!

    This is easy enough right?  Well not really, because if you spend any amount of time on the internet, you’ll find so much conflicting advice that your head will spin!  And it seems like no matter what you do, someone will tell you that you’re wrong.  My advice is to find a source that explains things simply and start small!  Be sure to take into account your personal learning style!  If you like reading books, awesome!  I highly recommend anything by Dr. William Sears!

    3) Take small steps

    Success on this path isn’t dependent on making radical changes or complete overnight overhauls of your kitchen!  Make small changes that you can stick with…sustainability is a hype word right now but there is a reason for that!  You have to be able to stick with the changes you make to experience success in your journey.  Here are some ideas to get you started:

    -Replace one sugary beverage per day with water

    -Walk 10 minutes every day

    -Post sticky notes around your home with positive affirmations

    There you have it, three tips straight from my own personal journey to encourage you in yours!  Remember, as long as you don’t quit, you’re already winning!
